Gartner 2012 Cool Vendor

Cool Vendor Report 2012 Cites Weswit, with its Lightstreamer Product, as Innovative, Impactful and Intriguing in the Area of Application and Integration Platforms.

Weswit is proud to announce that it has been recognized by Gartner as a “Cool Vendor in Application and Integration Platforms” in the report published on April 11, 2012 (i).

Quoting Gartner’s report, “Web streaming is an emerging form of MOM aimed at enabling back-end applications to send real-time messages over the public Internet, typically to large numbers (up to millions) of mobile or stationary endpoints, according to a publish-and-subscribe model”. When analyzing “Who should care” the report goes on to explain: “ISVs, SIs and cloud service providers that require efficient, low-latency and scalable publish-and-subscribe data distribution to mobile and Web-based endpoints should look at Web-streaming technologies as a way to add value to their offerings by enabling reliable and relatively easy-to implement connectivity”.

“We are honored to have been named by Gartner a Cool Vendor in Application and Integration Platforms”, said Mauro Fantechi, co-CEO and Chairman of Weswit. “Originated in the financial services industry, we have worked to expand the use of Lightstreamer to several verticals in many countries, from aerospace to military and defense, from telecom to energy and utilities, from online collaboration to social gaming.”

“We believe Gartner’s analysis is a strong and compelling testament of our technology”, said Alessandro Alinone, co-CEO and CTO of Weswit. “We have been improving Lightstreamer for many years, based on customers’ feedback, while embracing emerging technology standards. The new version of Lightstreamer, codename Colosseo, which includes rock-solid support for WebSockets and a redesigned client programming interface, will be a game changer in the real-time Web messaging space.”

Lightstreamer is made up of a high-performance server, which routes the real-time messages over the Web based on a publish-and-subscribe, fan-out architecture, and a rich set of client libraries. All the existing client-side platforms and technologies are supported, including HTML, Android, and iOS. Lightstreamer is able to deliver any real-time data, with low latency, whatever connectivity the user experiments, passing through any kind of proxies and firewalls.

Lightstreamer has been used in many application domains. Besides powering many first-class financial dealing platforms, it has been utilized for some interesting Web telemetry applications. For example, NASA uses Lightstreamer to deliver the real-time data coming from the International Space Station to its HTML, iPad, and Android applications. And America’s Cup uses Lightstreamer to publish the boat live data feeds over the Web.
